Rebedding is more extensive. The ridge caps are removed, the deteriorated bedding is cleared away, and the caps are reset onto new mortar. Flexible pointing is then applied to complete the repair.

Simply applying new pointing over badly deteriorated bedding may not resolve the underlying problem. The condition of the ridge caps and bedding should be assessed before deciding which repair is appropriate.
